Random Friday-ness

This week has absolutely chewed me up and spit me out. I'm mentally and physically exhausted and ready for a long nap!

First I will work out though. I'm proud of myself for having done something for exercise the past 3 days in a row. I'm shooting for at least 5 days a week.

So for some randoms...

Like my facebook page please :)

Don't forget about my giveaway for the Nora Roberts books and Bracelet.

Jenny Lawson's new book is on audible! Yay! Guess what I'm downloading in May :)

I'm starting the preparation for my next move this weekend. Keep me in your prayers, or just send me happy thoughts if you don't pray. This will be the 5th move in 6 years for me, and there's another one coming in the foreseeable future. I'm almost ready to throw away everything but clothes and start over! (Not really, that's expensive and frivolous)

If you have your eye on anything in my shop, now would be a good time to buy it. I have a show next week and I anticipate selling a lot of my current inventory.

And last, but certainly not least, these things made me laugh this week...

ITS OK Thursday {9}

Oh my goodness! It's been such a long week! I'm gonna have to make this quick but I promise I'll be back soon!

Its Ok Thursdays

ITS OK

... that I haven't blogged in a week. Work has been really busy and I'm running around like a crazy person.

... that I forgot to post my new Weigh-in Wednesday thing yesterday. I lost a pound by the way. It doesn't seem like much but if the scale keeps moving I'll be happy. 59 more pounds to go.

... that I spent about a half hour online this morning looking up vacation stuff this morning. We've decided to go to Jekyll Island late August for vacation this summer. I'm so excited!

... that I'm choosing to be mad at J's boss for him being two and a half hours late last night instead of J.

ITS NOT OK

... that J's boss might make him work again this weekend. We have a friend's wedding Saturday and those slave drivers need to let him have a life outside of that office!

... that we woke up this morning and found my apartment door standing wide open. How? Not sure. My cat stayed inside and nothing was missing. The door wasn't tampered with and J admitted that he might have forgotten to lock it last night, so I'm pretending that it wasn't latched well and a gust of wind blew it open.

... that I haven't seen my best friend in over a week! I'm overdue for some girl talk! I'm glad I get to see her tonight and catch up over wine :)

That's all I have right now! What's ok with you this week?

Its Ok Thursday! {8}

It's Thursday!!! One my my favorite bloggy days :)
I'm linking up with Neely and Amber for Its Ok Thursday!

Its Ok Thursdays

ITS OK

...that I'm so excited about going to see Les Mes tonight that I really don't even want to work today!

...that I'm proud of myself for eating breakfast today, even if it was just Fruit Loops.

...that in my rush to gather my things for tonight, I forgot to grab lunch :-/

...that as a result I will likely have to eat fast food if I want lunch today.

...that I've decided to give up my place for the next year. A small price to pay to reduce debt and build some savings.

...that I've been a little obsessed with dance this week. I've literally been going through positions and routines in my head (it's not a performance class).

...to be a little sad that no one entered the writing contest, but I'm chalking it up to timing, and the newness of the site. I'll try again this fall.

...to love my cat. I've had him four years but I was never a "pet parent" I simply had a cat. But he's been so sweet lately and I just love him. (I know crazy 'crazy cat lady alert' don't worry I'm not going to collect anymore.)

That's all :)

Wednesday Weigh-In

So I've been "trying to lose weight" for a couple of years now, and let's face it. I've not been trying that hard, and for every week I look at the scale and I've lost 2 lbs, there's a week that I gained 3.

I'm just happy that I haven't blown up to twice my size this past year! So I'm going to start weighing myself on Wednesdays and posting pics. Boring? Perhaps, but I'll try to find ways to make it interesting. My thought process is that if I don't do it, all of you will know that I'm not really trying, and I'll be embarrassed, and therefore I'll work harder. I also realize that might not be the healthiest motivator, but I'll use what I can.

I'll post about things like, when and how I worked out, new healthy recipes I'm using, and I'll probably confess to cake and alcohol on a regular basis. BUT, if I can reach my goals and be on target at my birthday? It's all worth it :)

I'm also considering taking pictures of everything I eat. Not necessarily to post (man, that would get annoying for you!) but as a way to mentally train myself to notice what I'm eating. I need to do better about thinking before I eat. And of course I have to start working out more than I do now. I'm sporadic at best.

These are pics from Easter. They'll be my "before" pics. My first goal is to lose 30 lbs by August 1, 2012. Then I'd like to lose another 30 by January 15, 2013. If I can do better than that or lose it faster, great, but I think this is probably the best and most reasonable goal for me right now.

Why I love Girl's Night!

I have had the immense pleasure of hanging out with my friends a good bit lately and it has been wonderful! I think, well I know, that spending time with this group of girls is good for my mental health. So I thought I would list my favorite things about Girl's Night :)

1. There is no pressure or judgement about appearance.

Girl's Night is a come as you are event. My friend Jen loves to dress up (dress, heels, jewelry, the works) and I love to wear jeans and a cotton top, no makeup. Both are completely acceptable at girl's night! In fact, I could have come in yoga pants and a t-shirt and no one would have cared! I love that!

2. It's like a cheap cocktail hour!

We all bring drinks so there is always so much, and we bring apps instead of dinner. So we sit around the table and graze and drink and talk and it's awesome! We can do this for hours (literally) and there is never a dull moment.

3. We dance and sing and make fools of ourselves, and no one posts it on youtube!

Jen has a pretty diverse iPod with some pretty awesome music. We belt out with Journey, Prince, and Brittney and no one is judging! It's so much better than karaoke! (Not that we don't love karaoke!) Then there is the dancing. We dance, like we're never going to dance again (hehe) and there is no shame in watching youtube videos to learn steps! Seriously, so much fun.

4. We dream and encourage each other.

Maybe it's all the alcohol, but it seems like the night always ends with one or more of us talking about our plans. It might be me or Jen talking about owning our own businesses one day, it may be one the brides-to-be talking about buying a house, it might be anything. Everyone is always supportive and encouraging though. I love my friends, and I love girl's night!

I'd love to hear from anyone reading, do you have girl's night on a regular basis? What do you do?

P.S. Happy Birthday Jen :)

An Elegant Giveaway!

So I'm a little sad that we didn't get any entries into the Sweet and Spicy Short Story Contest, but better luck next time right?

I still want to give something away though. I love Nora Roberts, and I bought up all of the books in the Bride Quartet in hardback. They are still in pretty good condition, and I made a pretty little pearl and crystal bracelet with a toggle clasp. So I'm going to give that away.

It seems very bridal but I don't want to call it that because I think any romance reader would enjoy it. So I stuck with An Elegant Giveaway.

The Secret of Life

If you listen to country music at all, you probably remember the Faith Hill song. If not the video is at the bottom of the post, give it a listen. My favorite line is "The secret of life is try not to hurry, but don't wait - don't wait."

How true?! We are supposed to enjoy every moment of life, but always be ready for what comes next. How do you do both?

I had a conversation with a girl yesterday who told me "One day I realized I'd stopped dreaming, what kind of life is that? No goals, no plans?" She was trying to get through each day, and here I was so busy planning for the future, that I've forgotten to enjoy all the blessings I already have!

You know what I think the secret of life is? Nothing, you just have to enjoy what you have. Because experienced has taught me that just when you think everything has evened out, something else will change. Sometimes its good, sometimes not so much, but it will change.

I've been hung up on some decisions I'm making, when the reality is that they probably won't make that big of a difference in the big picture.

"There ain't no secret, and you don't get your money back."

French Fries

For those of you who didn't pick up on it (You're clearly new, so welcome to my blog) I gave up fried food for Lent (the 40 days leading up to Easter). I have been craving French Fries since Ash Wednesday. Theoretically I could have had them yesterday, but it was Easter. Mama cooked Ham, Mac n Cheese, Green Beans, Rolls, and lots of sweet things. I was too busy to get Fries yesterday.

Tonight however, I'm having Zaxby's. Why do you care? Because you love me, and you know I will be a very happy girl around 5:45 this evening.

I'm also hanging out with my bestie Jen, who I haven't seen in an entire eight days. (This is a very long time for me, do not judge.) So not only will I be in french fry bliss, I will be catching up on some much needed girl chat. She will fuss at me for not writing more Mondays with Missie posts, and I will lament about my busy schedule squelching my creative talent. (Woe is me.)

So this post let's you know what is on my mind (French Fries), that I've been super busy (Travel, Family, etc.) and that I don't have very much to say. I blame the allergy fog that has descended upon my brain. I can't think very clearly, much less blog clearly.

I hope everyone is having a Happy Monday!

Small Towns and Snow Cones

A 'Sweet' Story for the Sweet and Spicy Short Story Event. Not an Entry {I can't win my own prize ;-P}

Samantha pulled off the interstate and started the last leg of her journey home. This 20 mile stretch of highway was deserted, and it felt like the longest part of the five hour journey. After living in Atlanta for six years, miles of pasture with the occasional ranch house made for a long drive.

When she'd lost her job two months ago, she didn't even entertain the idea of moving home. It wasn't until her on again off again boyfriend of three years announced that he'd met someone and "it had been fun" but he was done with what they had, that she decided that moving home might be better for her. It wasn't like she couldn't find an accounting job, there were plenty of them. So she sold off her furniture, and packed up her belongings. Most of her things she'd shipped ahead of her, but her clothes and valuables were making the journey in the back of her Jeep Wrangler.

She slowed her speed to the posted 45 mph and rolled the windows down. It was a beautiful day, so she turned up the radio and sang along with the local country music station. She was surprised at how quickly she reached the first redlight in town.

She sat behind an old pick-up that made a much noise as a riding mower and read the marquee over the high school. PTO Tuesday 7:00. Seeing the high school always made her nostalgic. She'd loved those years with Friday night football and Thursday afternoon pep rallies. She hadn't been a cheerleader, she'd opted for tennis. Still, she had loved every minute of it.

She still remembered dancing with Tyler Martin at her senior prom. She'd had a date, some guy her friend Celia had set her up with a few weeks earlier because he had a cool car (part of prom was how you got there). Tyler had a date too, Cindy Taylor. She was listed as Most Popular in the yearbooks that had been passed out earlier in the week. Who knew where either of them were when "Faithfully" came pouring out of the speakers, but bodies flooded the dance floor and Tyler and Samantha seemed to be the only ones not out there. He'd grinned and tipped his head, so she'd danced with him.

For Tyler, it was a dance. A popular song and a girl he'd known for years. For Samantha though, it was real life dream come true. She'd been so wrapped up in that dance, she didn't even notice when their dates reappeared. In fact it wasn't until Cindy tapped her on the shoulder that she'd put any space between them to see her date sitting at a nearby table looking bored.

She drove pass the feed and seed store, and the only two gas stations in town. She was sitting at the last red light before she pulled out to the other side of town. She noticed the Snow Cone stand on the opposite side of the intersection. The open sign was on and Samantha remembered how much she'd loved them in school. She pulled over and hopped out of the jeep, admiring the Silver F250 parked behind the stand. She walked up to the window and attempted to hide her surprise when no one other than Tyler Martin smiled at her from the other side of the window.

"Hey Samantha! How are you doing?" That bright smile was mesmerizing, and completely contagious. Samantha smiled back.

"Hey Tyler, what are you doing working here?"

"It's my cousin's stand, I'm filling in today cause his kid had a ballgame. What can I get for you?"

"Small cone, half grape, half cherry." Samantha smiled as she quickly rambled off her high school favorite.

"Done!" Tyler turned and made the cone and Samantha enjoyed the view of his backside. When he brought the cone back she smiled.

"How much do I owe you?" She asked

"I'll make you a deal. This one is on the house if you let me join you."

Samantha agreed and walked around to the small picnic table beside the stand. She felt her heart racing and took a few deep breaths, wishing she'd thought to fix her hair or freshen her make-up before getting out of the jeep. She sat at the weathered table as Tyler emerged from the side door of the stand with a blue cone.

"So what have you been doing for the past eight years?" Tyler asked.

"Well, I've been in Atlanta, but I've decided to come back home for a while. So the near future includes job hunting for me. How about you?"

"Well," Tyler took another bite of the blue ice, "I came back after college and got a job at the plant as a manager, now I'm working as a project manager at Headquarters. I like it, and there is a future in it."

Samantha nibbled at her cone and smiled. They talked until they'd finished the cones, Tyler slipped away twice to help a few customers and brought back waters for the two of them. Once they'd finished their cones they talked for another hour about their lives, about high school, and their plans. Samantha noticed the time and knew her mother would be worrying about where she was. She finished the water and stood.

"This has been really nice, Tyler. We need to do it again sometime." Tyler stood with her and waked her to her car.

"Maybe we can grab dinner tomorrow night?" He asked.

Samantha smiled, "I'd really like that."

Tyler tucked a hair behind her ear. "I'll pick you up from your mom's around eight o'clock?"

Samantha nodded. Tyler smiled and ducked down to kiss her. It was an easy kiss, a soft brush of his lips. Samantha wanted more though, and decided to take it. As Tyler began to back away Samantha pressed forward and caught his mouth again. This time the kiss was smoldering. She brought a hand to his neck as he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her tight against him. Samantha gasped and Tyler deepened the kiss and backed her against the Jeep. She sighed a little mewl and melted into his arms. The kiss was over too soon. Samantha felt suddenly vulnerable without Tyler's arms around her.

She had no need though. Tyler opened her door and let her climb into the jeep. Once she was inside he leaned in and kissed her again.

"Tomorrow." He smiled.

"Tomorrow." Samantha agreed.

As Samantha pulled out into the road she saw Tyler waving in her rearview. She laughed when she realized that "Faithfully" was playing on the radio.
